How Tough is a Pelican Case? Drop Test Case Comparison
For the most up-to-date product information, please visit: https://www.casedealer.com OBJECTIVE: The objective of this drop test is to determine the survivability of wine glasses using different protective cases and different foam insert materials and designs. CHALLENGE: Pelican™ Storm Case™ with custom cut XPF foam vs Generic Case with hand cut foam Drop Height: 8, 12, 20ft --- So, just how tough is a Pelican™ case? And how does it compare with other brands? Let’s put the Pelican™ and it’s counterpart through a drop test. In this video, we will test the durability of a Pelican™ Storm™ case to a generic case and compare the impact protection of both generic cubed foam and XPF precision cut foam. Each case will hold a set of wine glasses to be dropped from 8, 12 and 20 feet. After each drop, the cases will be inspected for visible scratches, breaks and content damage. The insert for the generic case is hand-cut and made from generic cubed foam. And, the insert for the Pelican™ case is machine cut using our XPF precision foam. Ok. We’re at the drop site where we have both the generic case and Pelican™ Storm Case™. We have wine glasses in both cases. Cubed foam or hand cut foam for the generic case and our XPF precision cut foam for the Pelican case. We’re going to drop them from eight, twelve, and twenty feet to not only test the durability of the cases but also the impact protection of each of the foam inserts. Let’s see how they do. The case is only as good as the latch. So, here we are with the generic case after dropping it from 8 feet. This is the latch that broke. We have filled the case again with four wine glasses and in order to complete the drop test we’re going to use duct tape. So, here we go. I’m amazed the wine glasses didn’t break when they fell onto the concrete. The case opened because the second latch broke causing the duct tape to tear. So, I put the wine glasses back inside the case and considering both latches broke I’m going to use a lot more duct tape to make sure that we get a chance to test the impact protection of the foam. Ok. Here we go. So, here you have it… after three drops, the two latches broke, the rubber gasket popped out and the cubed hand cut foam couldn’t protect one of the glasses from breaking. Next up is the iM2300 Pelican™ Storm case™ at eight feet. The latches on this Pelican case are tough. Besides a few scratches, the case survived the drop test and the professional cut of our XPF precision foam, protected all the glasses even at twenty feet. Here are the final results of the test I know, it really didn’t seem like it was a fair fight. But, when you got a Pelican case in the lineup it’s hard to find a case that can match up. This generic case definitely has a flaw in it’s latch design and I won’t trust this to keep anything safe – unless… you’ve got plenty of this! 2021© Copyright CaseDealer.
