SIZE & SHAPE OF MOSAIC TESSERAE in traditional style mosaics

When you purchase shop bought mosaic tesserae they usually come in 2cm squares (Winckelmans and vitreous glass) or 2.4cm squares (Cinca). You then cut the tiles down to the size and shape that you want and/or need. There is enormous variety in the size and shape of the mosaic tesserae that you will end up using in your mosaics. This video demonstrates the first cutting process - cutting the square tiles down into four pieces, and then the further cutting sometimes needed to shape the tesserae as you place them in your work.
