20 MUST HAVE BOAT ITEMS | BOAT ACCESSORIES YOU NEED FOR BETTER BOATING

I've been boating for about 3 years now and I've owned two different boats. I thought it would be a good time to put together a list of some of the items I've purchased that have helped make boating a better/easier and safer experience for me. The items are listed in no perticular order. Life Jackets are a must have. My favourite is my Hutchwilco Fisher Pro 150N. Perfect to add a bit more storage space to a small boat. VHF Radio. I have both a wired in Icom IC-M200 Fixed Mount Marine VHF Radio and as wireless Cobra HH350 Floating Handheld VHF Radio Black. Flare and smoke signals. I have RFD Powerboat Flare Pack. A personal locator beacon (PLB) is something I think you should never be without when boating or doing other outdoor activities. I have a Ocean Signal RescueME PLB1. A first aid kit comes in very handy on any boat. Ropes are always needed. I have a main rope that is 10m long and a second 2m rope. An oar or paddle just in case. I have Oceansouth 2-Part Telescopic Paddle 750mm-1200mm. Dry bags are great for storage. Always have a more layers of clothing incase it gets cold or you get wet. Something to bail with. Also really handy for cleaning etc. A fish finder with built in charts/maps or charts/maps on your phone (a proper fish finder/chart plotter is better than your phone though). An anchor to match your boat. I have a 10kg danforth style anchor with 3m on chain and 50m of rope attached. I've made a home made toilet with a bucket and a pool noodle. Perfect for when females are onboard and need to be a number 1. A good pair of pliers comes in very handy for general use and for fishing use. Having a built in cutter for braid fishing line is very helpful. A knife is a good general thing to have and is needed when fishing. I just have a cheap built knife and it does the job. I have a Leatherman Wingman Multi-Tool with Nylon Sheath on the boat which is really helpful incase anything needs to be repaired while on the water. A good pair of polarised sunglasses does wonders for making things more comfortable when out on the water. A roll of duct tape for quick repairs or worst case a keep bandage. Phone apps to help with weather. I really like Windy and the Coast Guard App here in NZ. I always keep my outboard and trailer in top condition with regular maintenance. A bait board can be a bit of a luxury but is so helpful for all sorts of needs. Cooking, cutting bait, making coffee, filleting fish etc. Boat | Smartwave 4200 Outboard | Mercury 50HP EFI 20 MUST HAVE BOAT ITEMS | BOAT ACCESSORIES YOU NEED FOR BETTER BOATING ___________________________________________________________________________ Follow us on social media: Instagram |   / chasingacatch   Facebook |   / chasingacatch   Check out our food and travel YouTube channel:    / chasingaplate   #fishingnz #newzealandfishing #nzfishing
