Sagami Bay, located in the southern part of Kanagawa Prefecture, has the deep Sagami Trough in the middle, and is clearly divided between lava to the west and sedimentary rocks to the east. The movement of the Philippine Sea Plate and the North American Plate plays a major role in the formation of this topography and geology.
