I Turned a Strange Piece of Cherry Wood into My Favorite Bowl - In memory of my father.
An unusual piece of fresh cherry wood became one of my favorite bowls I've ever made. In this video, I share my slow carving process, my love for working with imperfect wood, and why I no longer see cracks as flaws. Instead of hiding them, I let them become part of the final design. I also try an ancient Japanese wood charring technique for the first time, creating a unique two-tone finish. This project is especially meaningful because I made it in memory of my father. While shaping the bowl, I found myself thinking about the quiet ways he showed his love and support throughout my life. I hope this video inspires you to see beauty in natural imperfections.
