TOUT SAVOIR SUR LE MÛRIER, LE BOMBYX ET LA SOIE (Reportage découverte en Inde)
Nicole and Patrick Mioulane invite you to India, to the states of Karnataka and Kerala, to discover the "Silk Road." It all begins with the white mulberry tree, a Chinese tree whose leaves serve as the sole food source for silkworms, the larvae of the mulberry silkworm (Bombyx morio). Before pupating, these caterpillars secrete a very fine thread, over a kilometer long, which forms a cocoon protecting the chrysalis. It is the thread from this cocoon that is processed to produce silk. Our report presents all the stages of silk transformation, from the caterpillar to the weaving, including the reeling, twisting, and warping processes, culminating in the hand-weaving. A captivating and colorful journey that combines the plant, animal, and human ingenuity.
