Two Ways to Make /r/
There are two ways to make /r/ that have to do with where the middle of your tongue is - one is called retroflex and the other is called bunched. No matter what, the sides of your tongue are up in back, strong against the sides of your mouth. For the retroflex /r/, your tongue tip goes up, for bunched /r/, the back of your tongue bunches up.
