The court announced the verdict for the defendant, the driver of a Zeekr, who, according to investigators, drove into oncoming traffic on Al-Farabi Avenue while intoxicated, causing an accident that claimed the lives of three people. Before the verdict, the defendant made his closing statement, and the injured party once again reminded everyone that no punishment will bring back the victims. He asked for forgiveness from the parents and loved ones of the victims, emphasizing that he is not making excuses, not trying to shirk responsibility, and sincerely repenting. He also noted that he had never been prosecuted before, and speaking to the media, he stated that he had achieved everything independently and had no influential connections. DEFENDANT I sincerely apologize to the parents and loved ones of the victims. For me, this is a tragedy that will stay with me for the rest of my life. I am not looking for excuses or trying to minimize the severity of what happened. I ask you, when making your decision, to see me not only as a defendant, but as a person, the son of my parents, the father of my children, and the husband of my wife. I have never been prosecuted before and never imagined I would find myself in such a situation. The prosecutor requested 10 years in a minimum security prison for the defendant. All the victims also spoke, many admitting that they have forgiven him and that the length of the defendant's sentence is unimportant to them, as their children will never be brought back to life. Meanwhile, the lawyer for one of the victims recalled that the deceased's father has not dropped his claims and is asking the defendant to pay 100 million tenge in compensation for moral damages. He stated that the amount is not based on profit motives, but on the understanding of the value of human life and the need to restore justice. This is the maximum penalty, and I believe it's appropriate, because three human lives is not enough for us, and the law doesn't allow more. As a reminder, the tragedy occurred on the night of March 21st. According to the investigation, the defendant, intoxicated, was driving along Al-Farabi Avenue at 219 kilometers per hour. The collision killed the driver of the Mercedes and two young female passengers. After months of trial, witness interviews, and emotional statements from the victims, the court has rendered its verdict in a case that has been the center of public attention. Today, the court found the defendant guilty and sentenced him to 10 years in prison. The court also partially upheld the claim of the deceased girl's father for 10 million tenge in moral damages. The verdict has not yet entered into force and can be appealed by the parties in accordance with the established procedure.
