The "Ontayaki Pottery Festival," which had been canceled since 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and heavy rain disasters, was held for the first time in five years. Many people eagerly awaited the event and enjoyed searching for their favorite pottery pieces in the gardens of the nine kilns. Ontayaki pottery was first made in 1705, originally influenced by Karatsu ware and later by Takatori and Koishiwara wares. It is a form of folk pottery, primarily producing everyday items such as bowls and dishes. The pottery is known for techniques like "tobikanna" (chiseled decoration), "hakeme" (brush strokes), "kushikaki" (combed designs), "uchikake" (overlapping application), and "kakenagashi" (pouring glaze), which have been passed down for over 300 years through an unbroken hereditary line.
