i built raised beds without digging up my yard 🌱

Building out the raised bed garden using the no-dig method (also called back to Eden or lasagna gardening). Instead of tilling up the grass, you layer everything right on top and let it break down into incredible soil over time. Almost every layer in these beds came from right here on the property — the logs, the sticks, the leaves, the dirt, even the wood ash from our fire pit. That's the whole point of this method. You're working with what you have and letting nature do the heavy lifting. 🌱 THE LAYERS (bottom to top) 1. Mow the grass low — helps the cardboard lay flat 2. Cardboard — smothers grass and weeds, breaks down naturally 3. Logs & sticks — holds moisture deep in the bed for years 4. Leaf mulch — adds carbon and structure 5. Grass clippings — adds nitrogen, free fertilizer from the yard 6. Dirt — the main planting layer 7. Wood ash — adds potassium and a little pH boost 8. Compost — nutrient-dense layer to feed plants right away 9. Plant your veggies 10. Hay on top — locks in moisture, blocks weeds, feeds the soil 🎬 COMING UP Garden Part 2 — trellises, the creek rock pathway, landscape barriers, and finishing out the layout.
