What starts as a simple Canada Day outing in Victoria quickly turns into the beginning of a proper restoration phase—stripping paint from the cabin sides and slowly uncovering the original mahogany beneath. As layers come off, the reality of the project starts to show itself. There are sections of fiberglass over the original wood, previous repairs using different materials, and early signs of water damage in structural areas like the cockpit, windshield frame, and bulkheads. Some of the original mahogany is still solid and beautiful… but other areas reveal rot, mismatched repairs, and sections that will need to be properly rebuilt. This is the real start of the MV Geordie restoration—moving from purchase and discovery into actually understanding what it will take to bring this classic wooden boat back to life. mv geordie, monk cruiser restoration, 1953 monk cruiser, wooden boat restoration, boat stripping paint, mahogany boat repair, fiberglass removal boat, classic wooden boat rebuild, boat refit series, vintage boat restoration canada, liveaboard boat project, victoria bc boats, old wooden cruiser restoration, boat damage inspection, travels with geordie #MVGeordie #WoodenBoat #BoatRestoration 1953 monk cruiser restoration, mv geordie ep2, wooden boat paint stripping, mahogany reveal, fiberglass removal, boat damage inspection, classic cruiser rebuild, victoria bc boat project, early restoration work, boat refit series, wooden boat restoration, Monk cruiser, mahogany, fiberglass removal 00:00 – Canada Day Cruise on a Classic Wooden Boat 0:14 – Stripping Paint to Reveal Mahogany Cabin Sides 0:36 – Fiberglass Transom Inspection on a Wooden Boat 1:08 – Rotten Door & Davit Removal for Restoration 1:32 – Heat Gun Paint Removal on Mahogany 2:00 – Windshield Frame Restoration Begins 2:46 – Poor Repairs with Douglas Fir Exposed 3:07 – Fiberglass Removal Inside the Cockpit 3:40 – Water Damage Found in Mahogany Bulkhead 5:00 – Solid Mahogany Revealed Under Fiberglass
