Juana, Infanta of Castile and Aragon, was born on November 6, 1479, in Toledo. She was the third of five children of Isabella I of Castile and Ferdinand II of Aragon, known as the Catholic Monarchs. She was betrayed successively by her father, her husband, and her son. She went down in history as Juana the Madwoman. She was probably one of Europe's great heiresses who suffered the most tragic fate, as she spent nearly 50 years imprisoned in a tower of Tordesillas Castle, first by order of her father and later by order of her own son.
