Details Follow … . SOT Ambience It was a busy first day of nominations across the region, with a significant number of candidates turning up to formalize their bids for parliamentary seats. In Lira City, what began as speculation was confirmed Minister for Gender, Labour and Social Development, Betty Amongi, was officially nominated to contest for the Lira City Woman MP seat. That seat is currently held by Health Minister Dr. Jane Ruth Aceng, who is expected to be nominated tomorrow. Ambience After her nomination, Amongi addressed a large crowd at the former Akii Bua Stadium, hailing the resilience of the people of Lira City who stood by her through a challenging journey including the temporary removal and later reinstatement of her name from the voter register. Amongi said her campaign will focus on development and service delivery, not rivalry. Bite… In Lira District, former State Minister for Housing Sam Engola was nominated at 10 a.m. to contest for the Erute South Constituency seat, a position he once held before losing to Jonathan Odur. Ambience Engola said his decision to run again follows calls from residents urging him to complete the development projects he initiated. He was accompanied by his wife, the current Apac Woman MP, and a group of supporters. Bite… Also nominated for the same seat was Dr. Peter Ogwang, who described his candidature as the beginning of hope for Erute South, dismissing claims that opposition can not drive development. Incumbent MP Jonathan OOdu is expected to appear for nomination tomorrow. Bite… In Kwania District, the Chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on ICT, Hon. Tonny Ayo, was welcomed by a massive convoy shortly after his nomination. He later addressed residents at Apwori Primary School, pledging continued commitment to community empowerment and development. Bite… And in Amolatar District, the former district chairperson was nominated to contest for the Kyoga North Constituency, while incumbent Woman MP Agnes Atim Apea reaffirmed her dedication to community empowerment after her successful nomination.
