On July 21, 1969, at 3:56 a.m. Central European Time, Neil Armstrong became the first person in history to set foot on the surface of the moon. After the astronaut, together with his colleague Buzz Aldrin, had immortalized himself in the history books, 10 more people were supposed to set foot on the natural companion of our earthly home. However, almost 50 years have passed since the last manned moon landing was completed. In view of this immense span of time, the question arises why no one has visited the moon for so many decades.
