Well, it just got a lot more difficult and dangerous to apply for adjustment of status in the US. This is because the USCIS released a new policy manual on May 21, 2026, emphasizing that people should ordinarily leave the US to apply for their green card at the US Embassy. Adjustment of status or applying for a green card in the US, is to be considered an extraordinary form of relief, which could be denied as a matter of discretion, even if the person is otherwise eligible to adjust.
