Clifton Rail Bridge Demolition, January 2026

The Clifton Rail Bridge which carries the West Coast Main Line over the M6 motorway near Penrith is demolished. This £60 million project replaced a 60-year-old, weight-restricted concrete bridge with a new 130-metre, 4,200-tonne steel structure designed to last over 120 years. The new bridge was constructed off-site and moved into place using self-propelled modular transporters, this can be seen at the end of the video. in this video you see the different stages preparing and then the demolition of the old bridge. some footage is sped up.
