However, the field from which the seeds were obtained may be infected with pecana. Pecana is a seed-borne disease, and infected seeds almost certainly lead to its development. Therefore, I'd like to highlight some seed treatments that reduce the risk of pecana, especially for the Giza 177, Sakha 101, and Sakha 108 varieties. 🌻 Treating Seeds with a Saline Solution: Please note that this is not a curative treatment, but rather a method aimed solely at separating seeds infected with pecana. It is based on the concept of specific gravity. Prepare a saline solution; for every liter of water, you need 150 grams of salt. This means 10 liters of water require 1.5 kg of salt, which is sufficient for 5 kg of seeds. 🌻 Egg Test: Before immersing the seeds in the solution, perform a test. Place a healthy egg, as shown in the image. If part of the egg floats to the surface, the solution is good. If the egg sinks, add more salt, but the amount added should be insufficient. 🌻 Place the seeds in the saline solution for 5 minutes. You will find some seeds floating and others sinking to the bottom. Collect and remove the floating seeds; these are the lighter seeds and are infected with pecana. 🌻The seeds are then washed to remove any remaining salt, and the soaking process is completed in plain water. Other methods exist after separating the infected seeds, such as treating the remaining seeds with a fungicide. If there are still field infections resulting from seeds that escaped this treatment, they can be addressed by spraying the plants. Note: The attached images are numbered 1-5 according to the steps. Coarse salt, the type used in pickling, is preferred as it is less expensive than fine salt.
