There's a long-standing urban legend that campers with a standard B license have a "free for all" load limit, set at 3.5 tons. To dispel this myth and clarify once and for all, we went straight to the source: we followed the Highway Patrol during a checkpoint at the Milan East toll booth on the A4 motorway, where a fully functional fixed weighbridge is located. In this video, we'll see live what happens when a camper ends up on the scales and how the officers apply the 5% tolerance and the special rounding up to the nearest 100 kg required by the Highway Code. But it's not just a matter of kilos: we'll discover that when you end up at the weighbridge, a complete check is carried out, from checking your documents to the condition of your tires, including the arrangement of your load and the condition of your windows, which, if repaired hastily, can result in a fine for safety reasons. We'll analyze the fines provided for by Articles 167 and 169 of the Highway Code, but above all, we'll look at the real hidden danger: civil liability in the event of an accident. If insurance proves that the vehicle was traveling overweight, the consequences can be very serious. Between water tanks and provisions, exceeding 3.5 tons is very easy and drastically affects braking distances.
