Brooman, Donald B-17 Radio Operator/Waist Gunner

Donald Brooman was born and raised in New Jersey. Brooman joined the Army Air Corps and attended basic training in Miami. From there he went to Chicago to radio operator school. He would then be sent to Yuma, Arizona to attend gunnery school. The crew was assembled in Salt Lake City, Utah and crew training took place in Virginia and Florida. He was assigned to the 390th Bomb Group located at the air base in Framlingham, England. Brooman flew 30 combat missions. He describes a mission where the plane was hit by flak knocking out two engines causing a forced landing in France. Interesting description of 11 days in France.
