Making a Wood and Leather Dice Tray (or Valet Tray)

In this video I use some scrap leather I picked up at a local festival to make a high class tray that can be used for candy, or keys, or dice, or whatever! For the bottom panel I use an offcut of a resawn butcher block that Alex Snodgrass used in his bandsaw tune-up video here (   • Mastering Bandsaw Tuning: Expert Tips from...  ). After using this tray and a tray I had made previously, I recommend going with a thick plywood panel for the bottom, the extra density makes it sound a lot better when you're tossing stuff into it. Other than that it can be customized and sized however you like. 1/8"-1/4" walls about 1" above the base seem to be the best measurements. You can get all sorts of different colors of woods and leathers to make any combination and leather engraves easily with a laser (like the xTool F1 at Woodcraft) for more customization!
