This award-winning recipe has become a favourite in the family and the 'go to' date square recipe for decades. A date square is one of Wayne's special treats and he can't make them too often because he will eat the whole batch! If you like date squares, we encourage you to make them. #Jude&Wayne #Cookingfun #Crazycooks #Datesquares #delicious #deliciousrecipe #deliciousdatesquares #Familybaking #Greatrecipes #funnycooks Date Squares Crumb Mixture: 1 1/2 cups Flour 1 cup Brown Sugar 1/2 tsp Baking Soda 1 cup Butter 1 1/2 cups Oatmeal Date Filling: 1 pkg Dates 375g, cut into pieces (about 1 1/2 cups) 1/2 cup Brown Sugar 1 cup Hot Water Preheat oven to 325°F Make the crumb mixture by combining the flour, brown sugar, and the baking soda together. Then cut in the butter well, add the oatmeal, and mix until well-blended. Divide it into two equal portions and press half the crumb mixture (about 3 cups) into a prepared 8” X 8” pan and set aside. To make the filling, cook the dates, brown sugar, and hot water on the stove until soft and tender. Pour the date filling over the base and finish off by spreading the remaining crumb mixture on top and gently patting it down. Bake for 25-30 min until it is golden brown.
