Hematology/Oncology Foundations

This recorded lecture introduces foundational hematology and oncology pharmacology concepts for didactic-year PA students. Topics include anemia medication categories, iron therapy, folic acid, vitamin B12, erythropoiesis-stimulating agents, anticoagulants, antiplatelets, fibrinolytics, and basic oncology toxicity patterns. By the end of this lecture, students should be able to distinguish common anemia therapies, explain the difference between anticoagulants and antiplatelets, recognize major bleeding and clotting medication safety concerns, and identify high-yield oncology red flags such as fever during chemotherapy, myelosuppression, neuropathy, nephrotoxicity, and cardiotoxicity. This lecture is intended as prework for the Hematology/Oncology pharmacology block and will prepare students for upcoming in-person case-based application sessions.
