A Frigid 62 Mile North Orlando Paddle: 4 days, 3 Rivers, 2 Lakes, 1 Great Adventure
In preparation for the 2026 Everglades Challenge, a long-distance paddle was planned in the Florida Everglades around Whitewater Bay. The plan was in place for over a month and as the time drew near, a paddler flew in from out of State and time was taken off of work only to have a polar vortex sweep in and bring near negative temperatures to even the southernmost section of the State, and with-it gale-force winds. Although a challenge was in order, conditions were on the risky side of doable for camping on a chickee, so another inland route was quickly mapped out and put into place around the Orlando metro area's rivers and lakes. Over a four day, three night period, this 62 mile paddle tested our muscles, our cold weather gear, and our grit as we paddled along the beautiful waterways and camped in the freezing conditions. This was one of those paddles that we will all remember and talk about and most likely do it again in the future :). If you watch this video and want to do this trip as well, I highly recommend it, but be prepared to truly test your gear and yourself.
