South Africa Today on 21 July 2026

Hello everyone, welcome to SA Today on 21 July 2026. Today in South Africa, we begin the video with a protest along the N2 between Mount Frere and Mount Ayliff in South Africa. An elephant that walks towards the gate of Orpen Rest Camp in the Kruger National Park. Freezing cold morning in Bothaville today. Only in Africa will you see stuff like this. Smoke from a veldfire near Kokstad in the Free State Province. Elephants in the riverbed near Shingwedzi Rest Camp in Kruger National Park. We will show you more from across South Africa Today. This SA Today episode covers a day of protest action, wildlife encounters and winter weather across South Africa. Footage moves from a road protest in the Eastern Cape to close elephant sightings in Kruger, cold inland mornings and smoke from veld fires affecting travel and communities. Key scenes and locations N2 protest Mount Frere to Mount Ayliff — road users encountered a protest along the N2 that disrupted traffic and required police and traffic management. Orpen Rest Camp Kruger — an elephant walking toward the camp gate, illustrating how wildlife can approach park infrastructure and visitor areas. Bothaville freezing morning — very cold conditions recorded in the Free State town, with frost and low daytime temperatures. Kokstad veldfire smoke — smoke from a veld fire near Kokstad that reduced visibility and posed a local fire risk. Shingwedzi riverbed Kruger — elephants moving and drinking in the dry riverbed near Shingwedzi Rest Camp, captured during a game drive. Additional footage — regional travel shots and park scenes that highlight the country’s seasonal contrasts and conservation areas. Today's Weather Update Cloud and fog are likely to blanket the south-west coast ahead of Thursday’s approaching cold front, with light drizzle developing later in the day for coastal areas. Winds will begin to strengthen across the interior, signalling the front’s advance, and there’s a chance of very isolated showers from the eastern Northern Cape Province into the Karoo. Meanwhile, extremely high fire danger is forecast for the eastern Northern Cape Province, western Free State Province, North West Province, and parts of the Eastern Cape Province, where dry and windy conditions could rapidly escalate any fires. Elsewhere, most regions will remain dry and relatively mild, with the risk of fire prompting residents to exercise caution with open flames and outdoor burning.
