American Coal Through The ROOF | Selling 600,000 Tons a Year | Reading Anthracite Coal Mining

Aaron and the gang were filling their pockets with coal while visiting with Reading Anthracite in this episode of the Vlog. First, they checked out a rare machine, the Caterpillar 6020B Hydraulic Mining Shovel (Better known as “Thicc Boy” and the 6015B’s older brother). You may remember it from our last “Watch Me Work” video about a week ago, but if not… Here’s the link:    • CAT 6020B | Thicc Boy | Watch Me Work Epis...   Reading Anthracite used this machine to open up the cut and strip away all the dirt, muck, and mud to expose the rock for drilling so that the draglines and other machines could come in and mine the coal. They were after anthracite coal, which is MOSTLY used for steel making and furnaces, electric arc furnaces, titanium dioxide (which is white pigment products), the sugar industry, and pizza ovens! In total, they sell about 600,000 tons a year. (about 60,000 tons of that goes to home heating) In case you didn’t know, anthracite is a high-grade type of coal and is completely different from any of the coal we’ve seen in Mississippi, North Dakota, or West Virginia, etc. It’s very dense and has a lot more energy than what we’re used to. We also got to check out a 1960’s dragline, the “Marion 7800”. It has a 35-yard bucket that strips for the coal.
