Christopher is one of India’s most distinguished defence scientists and a pioneer in indigenous airborne surveillance and radar technologies. He served as the Chairman of the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Secretary, Department of Defence Research & Development, and Scientific Adviser to the Raksha Mantri. An electronics and radar expert with over three decades of experience, Dr. Christopher is widely regarded as the architect of India’s indigenous Airborne Early Warning & Control (AEW&C) programme – NETRA. As the Director of the Centre for Airborne Systems (CABS), Bengaluru, he led the design and development of India’s first indigenous AEW&C system, placing India among a select group of nations capable of developing such strategic airborne surveillance platforms. He has also made significant contributions to the Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) Multi-Mode Radar, advanced airborne mission systems, AESA radar technologies, maritime surveillance radars and several strategic defence programmes. During his tenure as DRDO Chairman, he oversaw numerous flagship programmes in missiles, radars, electronic warfare, avionics, aeronautics and indigenous defence technologies, strengthening India’s journey towards self-reliance in defence.
