Collecting Bloodroot with Walker Camack of Northeast Forest Farmer Coalition

This video describes and demonstrates sustainable seed collection timing, methods, materials, and other considerations for bloodroot (Sanguinaria canadensis) as part of a series of resources created by the Northeast Forest Farmers Coalition for a Northeast seed collection & purchasing program. Seeds should only be collected where there is explicit permission to do so, and where populations are sizable: Ideally, collecting less than 20% of the total mature seeds while collecting between 50-200 seeds total. This project is funded through a Northeast SARE Research & Education grant titled A Three-Pronged Strategy to Equitably Provide Planting Stock to Forest Farmers: Propagation Training, Seed Exchange, and Working with Wild Harvesters.
