TOP Beautiful Suffolk Punch Horse in the World!
Hello, my friends! TOP Beautiful Suffolk Punch Horse in the World! Country of Origin: England he Suffolk Punch is the oldest draft breed of Britain that still exists in their original conformational state today. The highest concentration of the breed can be found in their birthplace of East Anglia. Dating back to the 16th century, the Suffolk is a very old breed, unfortunately records were not well kept and their actual origins are a mystery still. Today the lineage of all members of the breed is traced back to one stallion born in 1768. Due to their relative physical isolation geographically the Suffolk has developed independently changing only slightly to meet the needs of local people. Farmers who bred the animals used them daily so they were rarely even sold outside the area. The Suffolk Punch Society was founded in 1877 and over the years been well received. Interestingly enough this breed has earned popularity in other parts of Europe as well as Pakistan where they are bred as army animals. Average height 16.1 – 17.1 hands Head is broad Neck is thick, muscular & arched Shoulders are well muscled & sloping Back is short & wide Legs are short & stocky with no feathering & appear a tad too short for their body Hooves are well formed & sound Traditional Colors Always chesnut (chestnut) & there are 7 recognized shades. Temperament \ Kind & willing The Suffolk Punch horse developed in Norfolk and Suffolk in East Anglia, Britain, and is one of the horses that are still living in its original conformational state. With the industrialization of Britain and a considerable growth in its population, these horses were used in plowing fields, cutting corn and carry wheat to the mills for supplying food to the towns. With their loads of stamina and power, they were probably the best choice for plowing the wet clay soil. The local farmers who developed these equines used them regularly, for which reason they were seldom sold outside their native area. Till date, the highest concentration of the breed can be found in their native region of East Anglia. In 1877, the SPS (Suffolk Punch Society) was founded and have been well-received by horse lovers down the decades. The breed by itself also gained much popularity in other European countries, and even outside, like in Pakistan, where these equines are used in the army. At present, its number is sharply declining and is said to have been rarer than even the Siberian tiger or the giant panda. Currently, there are only 300 Suffolk Punch horses left in the United Kingdom. On an average, only 30 to 40 purebred foals are born each year. The overarching description of the Suffolk Punch is “broad”- this is a strong and stocky horse designed for hard work, but still elegant and well proportioned. They are powerful and impressive, and a great spectacle when paraded or displaying their skills in agriculture and forestry. In terms of temperament the Suffolk Punch is docile and kind, but also intelligent. Their work history favours an animal that is biddable, but also has a brain to keep itself and its handler safe. The Suffolk Punch is a huge part of Britain’s pre-industrial heritage, and increasingly people are seeing the value of preserving a breed that not only kept the country in food and wood, but also made such a sacrifice in war. There are several organisations making a concerted effort to expand the breed’s gene pool and increase the number of horses registered in the UK. Anyone who is interested can visit open centres and attend shows where Suffolk Punches are present and the Suffolk Horse Society produces educational resources tied in to the curriculum, so future generations can learn about and appreciate these amazing animals.
