SUBOTICA, Vojvodina, SERBIA - Welcome to Serbia! This video is part 4 of my 2021 Serbia Travel series. I'm based in Belgrade at the moment, but for the next 3 videos we are heading to NORTHERN Serbia. Our first stop is the stunning SUBOTICA, formerly part of the Austro-Hungarian empire until the end of World War 1. Due to its proximity to Hungary, there is significant Hungarian influence in terms of architecture, food, and ethnic mix. Could this be the most BEAUTIFUL CITY in Serbia? If you're a fan of Serbian food, you can't miss the famous gulaš (goulash). It's similar to the dish found in Hungarian cuisine but with fewer vegetables and more meat! Serbian history and Serbian architecture are also in Subotica in abundance. As with all of Serbia, there is an immense World War 2 history, specifically concerning Jews and victims of fascism. The Subotica Synagogue is one of the many examples of splendid and elaborate architecture in Subotica, much of which was built in the 1800s and 1900s in an art-nouveau style by designers and architects from cities such as Budapest in Hungary.
