Paula Carnell received her first hive whilst bed and wheelchair bound with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome in 2011. Recovering from such a severe genetic connective tissue condition using herbal medicine and plant based minerals caused her to see the connection between bee health and human wellbeing. Travelling the globe learning from beekeepers where the bees and humans were healthy helped to consolidate her belief that what is killing the bees is also killing humans. As Consultant Beekeeper to The Newt in Somerset from 2017 – 2024 and managing the bees there was an excellent opportunity to spread her wisdom further afield. Compiling the content for the Beezantium and now working globally on bee projects, Paula has a reputation for calling back bees. Author of 'Artist to Bees', and 'Bees in Bhutan', Paula shares how bees transformed her life. Spiritual Beekeeping published in 2025, is the story of her personal spiritual journey and the Bee Project she set up on the remote Cocos Keeling islands whilst spending a year living with the Cocos Malay community for a year, 2024-2025. Plans to document this adventure involve her charity ‘Golden bee Productions’ and annual returns for research in the unique populations of bees in this isolated location.
