The derailment of two high-speed trains in Adamuz (Córdoba), which has caused the death of at least 39 people, is now the worst rail accident in Spain since 2013. On July 24 of that year, an Alvia train connecting Madrid with Ferrol derailed on a curve in Angrois, near Santiago de Compostela. It was traveling above the speed limit for the area. Eighty people died and another 145 were injured. Since then, there have been some less serious rail accidents. The most significant was also a derailment in O Porriño (Pontevedra), involving a train operated by Comboios de Portugal on the Vigo-Porto line. Four people died.
