TEDxCarletonU 2010 - Jim Davies - The Science of Imagination

In his TEDxCarletonU Talk, Dr. Jim Davies leads us into the fascinating world of the study of imagination and more particularly how our perceptual history affects our imagination. For more information about TEDxCarletonU, please visit: http://tedxcarletonu.com Jim Davies is an Assistant Professor in the Institute of Cognitive Science at Carleton University (Ottawa, Canada). As Director of the Science of Imagination Laboratory, he explores processes of visualization in humans and machines and specializes in artificial intelligence, analogy, problem-solving, visual analytics, artistic compellingness and creativity. His work has shown how people use visual thinking to solve problems, and how they visualize imagined situations and worlds. For more information about Professor Davies and his research, please visit: http://www.jimdavies.org About TEDx: In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxCarletonU, where x=independently organized TED event. At our TEDxCarletonU event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organized.
