NDR 2014: Our Malay Pioneers (Malay)

Speaking at the 2014 National Day Rally, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong pays tribute to our Malay Pioneers who chose to stay and build their lives in early Singapore despite the uncertain beginnings of our young nation. He said the Pioneer Generation Package (PGP) serves to recognise their contributions to nation building. PM Lee also highlights the contributions of Singapore’s first President, Yusof bin Ishak, and commemorates him by announcing the renaming of the Institute of Southeast Asian Studies (ISEAS) to ISEAS – The Yusof Ishak Institute, a new mosque to be named Masjid Yusof Ishak and the Yusof Ishak Professorship in the National University of Singapore (NUS) headed by Dr Yaacob Ibrahim.
