Buy from us https://www.artepiana.com/prodotto/ki... What is microcement flooring? Is it worth installing? How is it applied, how is it maintained, and what surfaces can it be applied to? In this video, I'll try to answer all these questions. What is microcement? To understand what it is, there's nothing better than reading the technical data sheet. It's a two-component powder product formulated with hydraulic binders, selected aggregates, synthetic resins, and specific additives. It comes in a powder form and must be prepared on site by mixing liquid resin in specific proportions. Once laid on the floor, it reaches a thickness of 2.5-3 mm. Thanks to its formulation, it is highly flexible and highly resistant to cracking. This doesn't mean it won't crack compared to resin floors, but the risk is lower. In recent years, microcement has become increasingly popular because it is attractive and offers several intrinsic advantages. It can be laid directly on tiles or flooring, which is a significant added value. How is microcement laid? Let's start by saying that each manufacturer has its own work cycle, which can be summarized in these phases: preparation of the substrate, application of the anchoring primer, application of the microcement itself, and application of the protective polyurethane resins. The finish can be matte, satin, or glossy. What can microcement be applied to? This material has very high adhesion and can be applied to all surfaces except parquet, where it is risky due to temperature fluctuations. How is it cleaned and maintained? It is a waterproof product, so water tends to collect and evaporate, which often leads to limescale buildup. To remove it, simply use apple cider vinegar or buffered acid. Normal cleaning is done with neutral detergents that clean and do not damage the product. Regarding repairs, it is a product that is not easily damaged, but if it does, repairs are quick and easy. Sometimes, it may be necessary to touch up the entire room; other times, local repairs can be done, especially if the texture is uneven and not flat. What are the pros and cons of microcement? You can install it on any type of flooring without having to remove it. It has good mechanical resistance. It comes in a wide variety of colors. It does not require expansion joints. It is fireproof. There are no joints. It makes small rooms appear larger. It is waterproof. It is almost never necessary to cut the base of doors and windows. The cons are: It is not an economical product. It takes quite a long time to install. It cannot be walked on during installation. It is not a "warm" floor like parquet. If you repair it, the repair is visible, so it is recommended to redo the room. It must be installed on intact, undamaged surfaces. It requires specialized labor.
