Tepechitlán, whose name comes from Nahuatl and means "place of crags," has a population of approximately 8,321 inhabitants and is located within the beautiful Tlaltenango Canyon, a region known for its agriculture and natural landscapes. One of the most important historical facts about the municipality is that Father Mateo Correa Magallanes was born here in 1866. He was canonized by John Paul II in 2000. He is remembered as a martyr for the seal of confession, as he was executed during the Cristero War for refusing to reveal the confessions of prisoners.
