Jumping in at the Deep End with Caroline Ongpin

Visual artist and collaborative printer Caroline Ongpin leads an Open House exploring the intersection of papermaking and printmaking. 2025 Marabeth Cohen-Tyler Print/Paper Fellow Caroline Ongpin welcomed visitors into Dieu Donné's collaborative studios for an Open House exploring the creative possibilities that emerge when papermaking and printmaking intersect. During the program, Ongpin led a tour of the studios, demonstrated the process of sheet pulling, and shared insights into the research and experimentation completed during her fellowship. Through demonstration and conversation, the event highlighted the collaborative nature of handmade paper production and the ways custom papers can expand the expressive potential of printmaking. About Caroline Ongpin: Caroline Ongpin is a visual artist and collaborative lithography printer. In 2024, she completed the Tamarind Institute's Printer Training Program and later joined the faculty at the Art Students League of New York. Her work has been exhibited at the Lower East Side Printshop, the Vargas Museum, and the Museo Taller Erasto Cortés, among other venues. Ongpin has participated in residencies with Guttenberg Arts and Arquetopia Foundation. She received the Art Students League's Kuniyoshi Award for Printmaking in 2019 and previously received an exhibition grant from the Cultural Center of the Philippines. She earned her BFA in Studio Arts from the University of the Philippines and is the 2025 Marabeth Cohen-Tyler Print/Paper Fellow at Dieu Donné. Website: https://www.carolineongpin.com About the Marabeth Cohen-Tyler Print/Paper Fellowship: The Marabeth Cohen-Tyler Print/Paper Fellowship is awarded annually to a BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, or person of color) or underrepresented printmaking postgraduate or professional printer. Through research and experimentation, the fellow develops custom papers for a range of printmaking methods while exploring innovative papermaking techniques that expand the expressive possibilities of printed imagery. Kenneth Tyler and Dieu Donné established the Fellowship in memory of Marabeth Cohen-Tyler to support artists and collaborative printers working at the intersection of papermaking and printmaking.
