Enough was enough. Helly Hansen Gale waterproofs, extra tall Bullseye rubber waders and long black rubber gauntlets were needed, and Andrea kitted-up accordingly. The job was tedious – ripping out handfuls of grass in the shallows of the pond. And all was going well until she tried to skirt around a clump of bullrushes and accidentally stepped off the ledge into 6 feet of water. And then things were going swimmingly! The dunking didn’t deliver the freezing cold shock that you might have thought, and that was because Andrea was also wearing a latex catsuit beneath the waterproofs. Yes, a few trickles found their way inside through the 3-way zip, but just enough to tantalise rather than soak. Andrea enjoyed a further 30 minutes of tearing out grass, standing waist and shoulder-deep in the pond, and getting properly wet inside the catsuit in the process. And then it was play time. She walked along the jetty and stripped off the saturated waterproofs. Then she pulled the black rubber waders back on, over her catsuit. She then slowly descended the ladder into the pond, laughing at the bubbles from her waders, and enjoying the freedom of swimming around in the cold winter sunshine. With just 1mm of latex for insulation, after 10 minutes of swimming it was getting quite chilly, and so she reluctantly climbed back up the ladder, picked up the waterproofs and sloshed her way back to the farmhouse with waders full to the brims with murky pond water.
