Rebetika - Griekse blues (Rebetica - Greek blues) documentary with Ano Kato

NOS-EBU documentary with Ano Kato in Greece (1992) Produced by Rolan Hurioglu Dutch and Greek spoken (Dutch subtitled) Ano Kato went to Athens in the spring of 1992, Greece, with camera crew from the Dutch Television (NOS), to make the documentary 'Rebètika, the Greek blues'. In this documentary: a lot of music and interviews with musicians, musicologists, (descendants of) original immigrants and other connaisseurs. Ano Kato was the inducement to this documentary. The members of Ano Kato visited many important rebètika musicians and played with them. Fantastic were the encounters with celebrities like Georgos Mitsakis and Michalis Yenitsaris, who composed thousands of rebètico numbers. Unfortunately, Mitsakis died shortly after the broadcast of the program - he already had great health problems when the recordings were made. Yenitsaris has also sadly passed away a few years later. Ano Kato is therefore very happy to have met them in talking and playing with them. In deze documentaire veel muziek en interviews met musici, musicologen, (nazaten van) oorspronkelijke immigranten en andere kenners. Ano Kato was de rode draad in deze documentaire. De leden van Ano Kato bezochten allerlei belangrijke rebètika-musici en speelde met hen samend. Fantastisch waren de ontmoetingen met beroemdheden als Georgos Mitsakis en Michalis Yenitsaris, die duizenden rebètikanummers op hun naam hebben staan. Mitsakis overleed helaas kort na de uitzending van het programma - hij had al grote moeilijkheden met zijn gezondheid toen de opnames werden gemaakt, en ook Yenitsaris is een paar jaar later overleden. Ano Kato is dan ook ontzettend blij hen nog ontmoet - en met hen gespeeld te hebben.
