Music is a primary method for making joy out of sorrow; for bridging the sacred, the social, and the personal; for using historical innovation to inform present work in the creation of future wisdom. To that end, we present these mixes as a testament of sorts—a testament to what we all share, despite our differences. Although the theme may vary from mix to mix, the mission remains the same. The mixes produced by Muzzle Flash Radio employ artistic methods of collage, pastiche, and juxtaposition for a critical purpose. By combining parts of previously produced music, editing them into a new holistic work, and adding transformative original material, we are engaging in a time-honored (and legally-sanctioned) fair use practice. What you hear represents a radical reimagining of existing music into unique statements on various human concerns: love, sex, pain, loss, death, drugs, the holy, and much more between… We create new meaning out of our musical archives. By combining existing elements into new contexts, we expose the hidden connections between what was thought to be distinct. By adding original material, we demonstrate how artificially-segregated forms of popular music are (as expressions of our shared longings) mutually dependent. This project is non-commercial in nature and does not impede a copyright holder’s ability to profit. It is intended to expand our collective understanding through cultural commentary.
