That was the feeling I had. However, I felt it would be difficult for Koreans to research Yun Dong-ju's life in Japan. So, I went around looking for the books that might have been confiscated by the Special Higher Police (secret police) when he was arrested, wondering if they might still be in used bookstores. "Another reason is that I believe Japanese people must have a clear understanding of the past, so I thought we could hold a memorial service at Rikkyo University, where the poet Yun Dong-ju studied." 2. Why Yun Dong-ju? I believe that the poet Yun Dong-ju always wrote poetry while striving for universal values. In addition to that, there was a time when he avidly read Kierkegaard (*a Danish philosopher). Kierkegaard was a pioneer of existentialism and 'existential' thinking. This connects to democracy today as well. It is the idea that each and every sovereign citizen is the starting point. In that sense, Yun Dong-ju's poetry does not become a thing of the past. Because it possesses immutability and was written based on existential thought, it seems to transcend the times, as well as language barriers and national borders. Furthermore, people in both Korea and Japan say that Yun Dong-ju was a poet whose poetry and life were in perfect harmony. Since he possessed the pure and refined philosophies passed down by his parents, one might say he exudes a pure and clear lyricism; perhaps one could say he became the origin of such sentiments. I wrote letters to about 150 Rikkyo University graduates—since they were still alive at the time—who had attended the university during the same era as Yun Dong-ju, asking if they had any memories. Exactly one person said they did remember. There is a part about 'going to attend an old professor's class,' and I learned that the old professor was a person named 'Mr. Uno,' and it was a class on the History of Eastern Philosophy. The person who took the class with me clearly remembered Yun Dong-ju, or rather, 'Mr. Hiranuma' (Yun Dong-ju's Japanese name), so they remembered in detail things like how they introduced the professor to Mr. Hiranuma or where the class was held. So, I also obtained things like the timetable from that time. Since everyone has passed away, it has become difficult to investigate directly, and I have ended up finding out indirectly. What I wanted to know was the location of the boarding house site (a six-tatami room) mentioned in *Easily Written Poem*. However, I identified about three boarding house sites, and because I investigated the addresses in the student records and things like that, I discovered that this might be the location.
