Nickel Plate Road 765: Steam in the Valley 2025 (4K)

My third adventure of 2025, would take me to the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad, for this year's Steam In the Valley. Located in the Cuyahoga Valley National Park, running between Independence and Akron Ohio. Operating right now at a length of 26 miles, through the national park, along Rivers, Valleys and Forests, this is one of the most scenic places to enjoy a train ride. Since 2010, on and off, Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society has brought their engine, Nickel Plate Road 765 to an Annual Event, Steam in the Valley. It typically operates 2 weekends, which was the case in 2025. The last time I attended was in 2021. I skipped 2022 due to personal reasons, and the washout issues at the time. But In 2024 when It was announced to be returning, I was excited to return to one of my favorite Railroads. After operating strictly at the Indiana Rail Experience, on the Indiana Northeastern for the past few years, it was nice to have the 765 close to home again. This year, the trips would only operate from Rockside to Indigo Lake. No trips to Akron this year. Runbys took place at Brecksville for the second year in a row. I would chase April 25th,-27th. The 25th, just before the train departed a severe storm would move into the area, which would cause floods. Due to flooding and safety concerns the 9 & 1:15 excursions were canceled the following day. However, the 5:30 excursion would continue that Saturday, both on Sunday would continue. Join me trackside, as we chase 4 excursions, through a Monsoon, overcast and beautiful spring weather conditions through the Cuyahoga Valley. From the rivers, hills, forests and valleys, enjoy 765 putting on a phenomenal show, and that whistle echoing along the Valley walls. While Indiana Rail Experience is the better chase, and experience, 765 sounds great here as well. Grab some popcorn, and enjoy my latest video! That weekend we chased with ‪@GTRailFanTrainMedia‬ ‪@LanesTrains‬ ‪@MiddleTennesseeRailProductions‬ & Bison Rail Photography. We ran into ‪@Viloco_Valve_Productions‬ ‪@TheBigBananaRailfan‬ ‪@Dillon_Goble‬ ‪@OldIronVideo‬ ‪@CHQRails‬ ‪@AidanDesaiRailProductions2003‬ ‪@CloverLeafMediaCo‬ ‪@SmokyMtnSteam‬ ‪@DroppedSignal‬ & various others. The Nickel Plate Road 765 is a 2-8-4 Berkshire Type Steam Locomotive, built by the Lima Locomotive Works in 1944. It operated for the Railroad until 1958. It was also the last Steam Locomotive Steamed up on the Nickel Plate. After it's retirement it was renumbered 767 and put on Display in Lawton's Park, as the City of Fort Wayne wanted the 767. However the real, 767 was in bad condition and the Nickel Plate Road did not want to scrap 765 as it was a favorite. In 1974 it was pulled out of Lawton Park, and was restored to Operation in 1979 and has operated excursions since all over the Midwest & the North Eastern US and even the South! Since 2010, on and off 765 has operated at the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad. While it had been 3 years, after much needed maintenance to the line 765 was back in 2025. After all this, I look forward to making it back out to the Indiana Rail Experience this year, to see 765 again during this year's Tri-State. Looking forward to his year, as we look at schedules, I sadly don't foresee myself making my way back south to see #630 #4501 or #1702 However, I am still awaiting schedules. Looking to the rest of the year, I am hoping to see #4014 90, #2102 #261 #1225 and possibly a few others. As always stay tuned!
