Did you know that a radial head fracture is a very common injury? But first of all, do you know what the radius is? In today's video Dr. Marcelo D'Amado, an orthopedic specialist, will explain what a radial head is and what the symptoms, diagnosis and treatment are for this type of fracture. The radius, one of the two long bones in the forearm, is located next to the thumb and extends from the elbow to the wrist. The head of the radius, the upper part of this bone, fits into a socket in the elbow. When a fracture occurs in this region, usually near the elbow, it is known as a radial head fracture. Adults are more prone to this injury, which often results from falls with the arm outstretched. There are some common signs and symptoms that can indicate the presence of this injury, in addition to intense pain in the elbow.
