KABARBURSA.COM — Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa predicts the 2026 State Budget (APBN) deficit will widen to IDR 734.3 trillion, or 2.85 percent of Gross Domestic Product (GDP), an increase of IDR 45.2 trillion from the initial target of IDR 689.1 trillion, or 2.68 percent of GDP. Purbaya conveyed this projection while reporting on the first-semester APBN realization and the second-semester 2026 prognosis at a meeting with the House of Representatives Budget Committee (Banggar DPR) in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday, July 7, 2026. This increase in the deficit is due to a shift in state revenue and spending projections from the initial targets set by the government. Purbaya explained that state spending is estimated to increase to IDR 3,982.4 trillion from the target of IDR 3,842.7 trillion, in line with increases in central government spending and transfers to regions to support priority development programs, maintain food price stability and public purchasing power, regional government administration, disaster management, and additional special autonomy. The spending outlook also takes into account an additional IDR 132 trillion for government obligations, subsidies, and compensation. On the other hand, state revenue is projected to increase to IDR 3,208.1 trillion, although tax revenue is estimated to only reach 98 percent of the target, or IDR 2,310.8 trillion. The government stated that it will increase tax revenue through tax officer efficiency and improvements to the Coretax system without issuing new taxes, while ensuring the deficit remains below 3 percent of GDP.
