Tsai, the daughter of Taiwanese immigrants, faced struggles with identity and beauty standards growing up in Texas. Despite a successful corporate career, she experienced burnout and acute dermatitis. A trip to Kyoto, Japan, introduced her to the beauty secrets of geishas, which healed her skin and spirit. Unable to find these products in the US, Tsai created Tatcha, blending natural ingredients and rituals with modern skincare science. But whilst her journey inspired one of the most popular and successful beauty brands of all time, they aren't without their controversy.
