There was a time when Sambisa Forest was not known for fear. It was not known for insurgency. It was not known for captivity. It was not known as the place many Nigerians came to associate with Boko Haram. Once, Sambisa was a protected forest and game reserve in Borno State. It was home to wildlife, safari activity, rare animals, conservation efforts and tourism dreams. But over time, neglect, insecurity, weak governance and insurgency changed its story.
