Several vendors admit that the current situation is even more challenging than during the Covid-19 pandemic. Prices of rice, cooking oil, vegetables, chilies, and even meat continue to rise, while the number of customers has actually decreased. Many wartegs have been forced to reduce food portions, remove favorite menu items, and even cut profits to maintain affordable prices. In Pamulang, South Tangerang, some vendors reported losing up to 50 percent of their customers. Meanwhile, in Jakarta, warteg turnover, which usually reaches IDR 2 million per day, is now struggling to reach IDR 1 million. Some vendors have even chosen to close their businesses and return to their hometowns because they can no longer cover operational costs.
