Should You Visit Thailand’s Deep South? 🇹🇭

Thailand’s Deep South is much safer and more peaceful than many people think 🇹🇭 I recently traveled through Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat to experience the South of Thailand for myself. During the whole journey I felt safe and welcomed everywhere I went. The local people were incredibly kind to me, and many times people even offered me free food, drinks and snacks just because they were happy to see tourists visiting their hometowns. Some people invited me to sit with them, talk with them and share local foods and stories about the South. The hospitality I experienced during this trip was something I will never forget. I found beautiful nature, peaceful communities, delicious local food, rich traditions and a very special multicultural atmosphere. One of the things that surprised me the most was seeing Thai Muslims, Buddhists and Thai-Chinese communities all living together while keeping their own cultures and traditions alive. In one trip you can visit temples, mosques, Chinese old towns and local markets full of different influences and histories. The South has a very unique identity compared to other parts of Thailand. The journey started in Pattani where I visited Wat Chang Hai and explored Pattani old town with its old Chinese houses and local atmosphere. I also visited the beautiful Pattani Central Mosque and later headed to Bang Pu mangrove forest where I took a boat through the river surrounded by nature before reaching the sea. The sunset there was absolutely beautiful. I also visited a palm plantation to see the preparation of natural palm sugar made using traditional methods. Later I traveled to Betong where I visited thousand-year-old trees, explored Betong old town with its murals and tried many local foods including homemade grass jelly created by descendants of Chinese families who arrived in the area around 200 years ago. One thing I also learned during this trip is that traveling around Southern Thailand is much easier than many people think. You can fly to Hat Yai and from there travel around by van or bus between Pattani, Yala and Narathiwat for very affordable prices. The transportation was easy to use and the journey felt smooth throughout the trip. For me, this trip was not only about food and travel, but also about understanding a different side of Thailand that many people may not know much about. I left the South with many good memories, beautiful experiences and a lot of respect for the local people and cultures there.
