Stephan Kreutzjans from Surwold in the Emsland region has expanded his family's dairy farm to include organic egg production. In the newly constructed barn, which the farmer equipped with the Big Dutchman Natura Step aviary system, 15,000 hens will live in six sections. While organic farming regulations allow a maximum of 3,000 hens per flock, Kreutzjans has significantly undercut this limit with 2,499 hen places per section. The six sections within the barn are also completely separated from one another. This division of the flock continues into the outdoor run. ► Questions?
