TUTORIAL: how to create stunning infrared photos in Lightroom in 15 minutes
In this week's video I share my standard editing process for black and white infrared images from straight out of camera to the finished product. I use a Hoya R72 720nm filter to filter most visible light, but this creates fairly noisy shot at relatively high ISO. I process my images in DxO Pure Raw2 to create a noiseless RAW file and then process them simply in Lightroom for black and white images (my preference). For false color images, I channel swap in Photoshop using a quick and easy method. There are some drawbacks to shooting IR with a filter that I touch on, but overall this is a quick and easy and relatively inexpensive way to explore IR photography with a typical mirrorless camera set up. Hope you enjoy! Let me know what your approach is. AND if you know how to address the vignetting issue, please reach out! NOTE: if you do not have a Lightroom infrared temperature profile set up already then please check out Rob Shea's excellent materials for creating one. This is necessary if you want to do colorized IR images; not for black and white. https://blog.robsheaphotography.com/2...
