The case of Lyhanna, who disappeared in Fleurance (Gers) on Friday, May 29, and was found dead a few days later, on June 4, sparked a wave of emotion across the country. The judicial system was quickly criticized for its alleged inaction regarding the main suspect, Jérôme B., who is implicated in other cases of sexual violence against a minor. Gérald Darmanin, the Minister of Justice, spoke of "failure," "professional misconduct," and other "irresponsibilities" in a scathing attack against magistrates. The President of the Republic dismissed the issue of resources allocated to the justice system, stating that he did not want to "hear any arguments" on the matter.
